document.cookie

Document.cookie is an api for setting cookies. Cookies are used to remember which users have visited your site. Cookies create files on the user's computer. Where it is stored on your computer's hard disk is dependent on your browser.

Document.cookie are name-value pairs. When creating cookies, options such as expires and path are passed along with the value after a semicolon

document.cookie = "username=John Smith; expires=Thu, 18 Dec 2013 12:00:00 UTC; path=/";

You are always adding on to a cookie, never overwriting it. If you want to overwrite some information you need to either delete the cookie, or rewrite the specific cookie name-value pair

To read specific cookie information, you need a dedicated function to parse each name-value pair

To delete a cookie set the expires to a time that has already passed
